If your laptop keyboards is typing numbers instead of letters, it is likely that your NUM lock has been turned on, which allows you to type numbers as though you had a numeric keypad.  Follow these instructions to disable it-

1. Find a button on the keyboard that says "Num lock" or something very similar without the quotes (for instance nmlk, num lk). It is usually near the top right. Press it, and look for the indicator light as there is usually a light indicating whether it is on or off, then try typing again.

2. If it is still typing numbers, your num lock might be linked to a "fn" or "function" key, which is usually located on the bottom left of the keyboard. You will have to hold down "fn" and while it is held down, tap the num lock key.

These steps should disable the num lock and allow you to type like normal again.
