When you create a document and send it to someone, it might be desired to put it in a easily readable format that cannot be edited. Some types of documents you might want to not be editable include contracts, original documents, and presentations. A common method is to either save the file, or print it as a PDF file. PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format that provides an electronic image of text or text and graphics that looks like a printed document and can be viewed, printed, and electronically transmitted.
There are ways that you can convert your document into a PDF file without having to purchase a PDF creator. Some programs allow you to save the document as a PDF, however if your program will not do this, you can also install a PDF Printer program (from a reputable site). These programs will allow you to select the PDF converter as an option during the printing function, and it will save to whatever location you desire.
To save a document using a program that has this capability (EX: MS Word), do the following.
1. The file must first be saved as a .doc or .docx prior to being able to convert it to a PDF.
2. Click the "File" tab and go to Save As.
3. In the "File Types" field, choose Create PDF or XPS Document.
4. Click "Create a PDF/XPS"
5. In the pop-up dialog box, enter a file name and location.
6. Click Publish.
